When is dattatreya Jayanti on Year 2024

Dattatreya Jayanti is celebrated in the month of Margashirsha on the full moon day. Lord Dattatreya is the avatar of three gods: Brahma, Vishnu and Siva. Lord Dattatreya is the son of Rishi Atri and her wife anusuya. According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Parvati were jealous of Anusuya because she was well established with Pativrata Dharma, so to check her Pativrata Dharma all the three Goddess requested their husbands Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva to check her loyalty. To check this they told their husbands to go to her in the form of Sanyasis and ask her for the alms without the clothes. All the three Gods agreed to this and went to her house and asked for the alms without clothes, listening to this she was shocked but she can’t refuse them as they were sages and at the same time she was devoted to her husband. Anusuya with her devotion turned three sages into babies and then gave them alms. After sometime, Atri came and found out that the three babies were Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva and at the same time was impressed with his wife as she showed her loyalty. All the three lords were also impressed with her and bestowed her with the baby having three heads and from that day the baby was named as Dattatreya.

During the Jayanti the dattatreya jayanti 2024 Puja pooja is performed with full rituals. The day is started by cleaning the house, taking bath and then preparing the prasadam. After the pooja is performed the prasadam is distributed among the devotees. On this Jayanti jaap of six malas, each 108 times needs to be enchanted reciting the mantra “Om Shri Gurudev Datta”. It is believed that doing the Datta pooja resolves all the problems of life and the life is lived with peace and prosperity.

The protective shield is created whenever the mantra is recited and this shield helps the individual from all the negative energy. The mantra that needs to be recited during this day is :

Sree ganeshaya namah||

Sree saraswathyaya namaha||

Sree padha vallabha narashihma saraswathi

Sree guru dattatreyaya namah||
